I am applying for (check one and fill in year): Fall 20 Spring 20 Summer 20
Students applying to the Spring Hill College Italy Center must complete this application, including your required signature. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the program is full. Students are encouraged to apply early as some courses, internships and residence hall housing options may fill up months in advance of the actual semester or summer session.
The Italy Center has a rolling application deadline; however, most college and university study abroad offices have their own deadlines for application. Visiting students (non Spring Hill College applicants) should be sure to comply with their home campus deadlines for applying to study abroad. Decision notification will be sent via e-mail within approximately two weeks of the SHC Italy Center receiving your application materials. The notification will indicate your deposit payment deadline and the amount of Tuition and Fees to be paid in accordance with your choice (and availability) of a single, double or a triple room. A completed application will reserve your place in the program, and you will only lose your place (given that all academic and application requirements are met) if you fail to deposit by the deadline.
A $500 nonrefundable deposit is due one month after you receive an e-mail notifying you of your acceptance. Your place in the program will NOT be held past the one-month deposit payment deadline.
Visiting Students (Non Spring Hill College applicants) You are required to have one of the following college or university officials (Academic Advisor, Study Abroad Advisor, or Financial Aid Office Advisor) send a one-paragraph e-mail to italy@shc.edu, clearly indicating that your home institution approves of your intent to study at the Spring Hill College Italy Center. This e-mail, to be sent by the official responsible for approving study abroad participation, indicates that you have prearranged the terms of your Italy Center credits and the status of your home institution’s financial aid package for your semester or summer abroad. Your application will not be completed until this e-mail is received. Academic Advisor / Campus Study Abroad Advisor / Financial Aid Advisor (please provide the name and e-mail address of at least one of the listed college/university officials who can approve of your intent to study in Bologna)
Medical Background
In the unlikely event I am to require hospitalization during my stay abroad, I authorize the Spring Hill College administration to contact my Primary and/or Secondary Emergency contacts in order to keep them informed of my medical situation.
Yes No If you have a physical disability, have a documented learning disability, or have a medical condition that requires medication (including anti-depressants or attention deficit disorder), this does not preclude your enrolling in the Italy Center. However, it must be determined in advance how the Italy Center can best accommodate your special needs. Therefore, please indicate below any medical needs of which the Italy Center administration needs to be informed, in order to best support you during your study and travels abroad.
Passport and Visa I currently posses a passport that does not expire until at least six months after my planned return to the United States. Yes No Those who are in need of a passport, please refer to the “Quick Guide” section of the Web site for directions as how to secure a passport. Visa All students who study abroad are required to submit visa papers in order to live legally while in Italy. Students who arrive on the Italy Center scheduled arrival and departure dates will not need to file visa papers before leaving the United States. You will officially arrive in Italy as a tourist, allowing you 90 days in Italy and fellow Schengen countries. Upon your arrival in Bologna, the Spring Hill College administrative staff will assist you in completing a simple form, and the staff will submit your legal papers to the Italian officials. This is a simple procedure. If you intend to travel independently before or after the Italy Center program dates, you will need to acquire a Student Visa at the Italian Consulate in your region of the United States. The majority of Spring Hill College students will send their visa application papers to Miami, Florida. Italian visa laws are strict, and all students abroad are to comply by the law. If you decide that you would like to travel before or after the official Italy Center program, you will need to follow the guidelines for securing a Student Visa as detailed in the “Quick Guide” section of the Web site. If you posses a passport from a European country, you do not need to worry about the visa procedures. Please indicate if you plan to travel before or after the Italy Center program comes to a close. Your decision is not final, however, your answer below will help the Italy Center staff in assisting you as to what steps you must take (if any) in order to plan ahead for your visa. Yes, I have tentative plans to travel before or after the Italy Center program dates No, I plan to arrive and depart on the exact predetermined Italy Center dates
The official Italy Center calendar is located in the “Academics” section of the Web site.
