Borrowing Library Materials

Currently enrolled full-time, part-time, and special program students may borrow materials. Additionally, members of the President's Club, Friends of the Library, faculty members of AJCU institutions when presenting their AJCU card, and clergy with special arrangement may borrow library items. All borrowers need a Spring Hill identification card to check out materials from the library. A security system is in place in the library.

Most library materials may be checked out. Exceptions include journals, reference books, materials held on reserve, materials in special collections, and assorted items identified as non-circulating.

To maintain its effectiveness, the library reserves the right to routinely check book bags, briefcases, and other belongings.
Book Returns

Book checked out from the stacks are due back before closing, either 14 or 28 days form the check out day. Reserve materials are checked out for either two hours, overnight, three days, or seven days. Item on two hour loan must be returned promptly to avoid fines. Items checked out on next day, three day or seven day loans must be returned by opening the next third, or seventh day. For the convenience of Library users a book return box is situated outside the library entrance. Items may be placed in the return box when the Library is closed. Whenever possible it is best to bring your return items to the Circulation desk.
Overdue, Lost or Damaged Items

As a courtesy to all members of Spring Hill College, borrowed items should be returned to the Library when the borrower has finished with the book. Due dates are marked in each circulating item but it is the responsibility of the user to be aware of the return date of library items.

As a courtesy, an overdue notice is sent out on the day a library item becomes overdue. Any patron with $2.00 in fines will have his or her borrowing privileges suspended until the fines are paid or cancelled. Unpaid fines and presumed-lost book charges will be forwarded to the Business Office for processing two weeks before the end of each semester.

Borrowers should take appropriate care of all items borrowed from the library. Borrowers will be responsible for the cost of repair or replacement of any item that is damaged or lost while in their charge. The cost of replacing lost items will be incurred by the user to whom the item was charged when it was lost. The amount to be charged will include the cost of the replacement item plus a $10.00 processing fee. When the value of an item cannot be determined, a flat rate of $50.00 will be charged to the user for each lost item.

All outstanding charges, fees, and fines must be cleared at the end of each semester. Borrowing privileges will be suspended for any user whose account is delinquent. No student will be allowed to graduate until charges, fees, and fines are appropriately processed.

Failure to comply with posted policies and procedures may result in loss of library privileges.
