Spring Hill College Library Terms of Use

 
The Spring Hill College Library web site and its contents are the property of Spring Hill College and administered by the Marnie and John Burke Memorial Library. Permission to connect, view, and interact with this web site is given only to those who agree to the terms and conditions set forth in this document. Use of the web site implies an agreement between the user and Spring Hill College. If you do not agree to the terms of use expressed in this document you must leave this site immediately.

The Spring Hill College Library web site incorporates both web pages that are limited to current Spring Hill College community members as well as pages that are freely available for review on the Internet. Current Spring Hill College community members are defined as those registered for classes whose accounts are in good standing, full time faculty or faculty teaching at least one course, and full or part time employees of Spring Hill College. The Spring Hill College Library web site primarily supports the education and research efforts at Spring Hill College and, secondarily, supports the spiritual, social, and intellectual growth of those who visit the web site.

 
 
Conduct
 
 

Users of the Spring Hill College Library Web site agree to conduct themselves in a manner that is lawful and recognizes the spirit in which the site is made available. Use of the site will be terminated if, in the sole opinion of those who own or administer the site, the user is engaged in unlawful or unacceptable behavior such as, but not limited to the following:

 

•  Content or actions that defame others;

•  Content or action that is bigoted, hateful or ethnically or racially offensive;

•  Content that is obscene, threatening, or otherwise objectionable;

•  Content that discusses illegal activities with the intent to commit them;

•  Content or action that infringes upon another's intellectual property rights, including but not limited to copyright or trademarks;

•  Content or action designed to inflict damage or harm to another's property including but not limited to viruses, worms, Trojan horses, or other harmful or disruptive files, or components;

•  Content or action that promotes or advertises or solicits any commercial product or service without explicit written permission of Spring Hill College;

•  Content or actions that restricts or inhibits the use of this site as defined in the terms of this agreement.

•  Action involving the reuse, reselling, redistributing, modifying, adapting, reverse engineering, or otherwise tampering with any resource that is part of this web site.

Anyone who attempts to access another's personal information or misrepresent one's identity will be in violation of this agreement and may be subject to further legal action.

All users agree to indemnify, defend, and hold Spring Hill College harmless against any claims, damages, or other expenses that arise directly or indirectly from a user's breach of this agreement or by any action caused by a user's violation of the agreement.

Use of the site indicates that the user agrees to be bound by the terms of the agreement.  If user does not agree to the terms of this agreement, the use should immediately cease use and exit this Web Site. Any user considered a minor under state or federal law (i.e. users who are not yet eighteen years of age) must obtain the permission of a parent or guardian who will agree to be bound by the terms of this agreement on the minor's behalf.
 
Copyright and Licenses
The Spring Hill College Library web site is protected under Title 17 of the United States Code and by International Copyright laws. The College reserves all rights to materials for which it claims ownership. Many materials accessible through the Spring Hill College Library web site are under license. By accessing licensed materials users agree to abide by all statements and restrictions expressed in these licenses including, but not limited to, the statements included below in this document. While Spring Hill College Library makes no claim to the freely available Web sites on the Internet, users who access these pages through Library page links agree to abide by terms of use spelled out both in this document and to all terms of use applicable to the linked site.

Unless otherwise noted, Spring Hill College claims ownership to all text, images, illustrations, patterns, designs, logos, icons, photographs, audio or video materials, and any other components comprising the intellectual property of the Spring Hill College Library web site. 

Spring Hill College complies with Title 17 of the US Code regarding restrictions of copyright, which governs the reproduction, distribution, adaptation, public performance, and public display of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions of the law, Spring Hill College, as a nonprofit Library, is authorized to allow the downloading of material for research and personal use. Any person who makes unauthorized copies or adaptations of the downloaded material, or redistributes the downloaded material, or publicly performs or displays downloaded materials, except as permitted by Title 17 of the United States Code, may be liable for copyright infringement. Spring Hill College reserves the right to refuse access to web resources on or linked to its site if in its judgment access will lead to violation of copyright law.

 
Sale of Items and Services on the Library Web Site
 
Spring Hill College Library does not sell nor does it make available products for sale online. Further, the College does charge for Library related services available to currently registered members of the college community except in specific and clearly identified instances of cost recovery (e.g. some inter-library loan services). Spring Hill College Library neither underwrites, nor promotes, nor supports advertising found on web pages it licenses or to which it maintains links and claims no connection to or responsibility for any item or service on any page not loaded on the Spring Hill College Library server. Spring Hill College specifically recommends that current college community members make no purchases of full text journal or periodical articles offered for sale without confirming that these articles are not available through another source, either owned or licensed or otherwise obtainable through the library.
 
Privacy
 
 
Spring Hill College Library collects some personal information about its users in order to establish accounts, communicate with users about library services, and to ensure that current Spring Hill College members have the ability to gain access to resources licensed by the College. The Library staff recognizes the vital need to maintain confidentiality and will take every reasonable means to limit the degree to which this information is used or available.
 
Names and Password Supplied by the Library or College
 
 

As noted above, some parts of the Spring Hill College Library web site are licensed for use by, and only available to, current Spring Hill College community members. Users are given passwords for the purpose of accessing resources licensed for use through the Library's web site. Access to and permission to use password-protected resources is solely at the discretion of Spring Hill College and all user accessing licensed materials agree to abide by the language of the contracts. Users of resources and services accessible through the Spring Hill College Library web site may not distribute or otherwise share their usernames and passwords without the explicit, written permission of Spring Hill College. Users are responsible for maintaining the privacy of their usernames and passwords. Failure to maintain the privacy of one's username and password or the deliberate sharing or dissemination of a username and password will result in the immediate suspension of that account and may result in additional legal action by Spring Hill College.

Spring Hill College reserves the right to change or modify the terms of use related to its Web site, resources and services at any time, for any reason whatsoever, without notification. Users should visit this page to stay current with the terms of use. Violation of the terms of this use agreement will be considered a breach of the agreement and may result in the termination of the user's access to the site, it resources and services. Spring Hill College solely and exclusively will determine whether users are meeting the agreement of these terms.
